Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Value. Now in the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 review, we come to the most attractive feature of all: the incredibly low price! Astonishingly, the Scarlett 2i2 offers such high-quality sound and functionality considering the price point.
Features The 4th Gen offers many improvements and upgrades from the 3rd Generation. Here they are, at a glance: 120dB dynamic range Auto-Gain function Remote-controlled preamps Custom-designed headphone amp Refreshed easy start tool New 'Clip Safe' function
PROS: • Easy to use. • Excellent sound quality. • Friendly interface. CONS: • No pad on the mic preamp input. • App settings can't be saved. Originally introduced in 2011, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 has undergone several revisions, first in 2016 (2nd Gen), then in 2019 (3rd Gen) and now a revision to 4th Gen.
The 4th gen Scarletts include technical improvements across all interfaces with 120dB dynamic range RedNet A/D converters, a new improved headphone amp, better implementation of knob halo indicators with output metering for the 2i2 and 4i4, and a reworked Air mode.As it comes to sound, the 1st gen Scarlett 2i2 was limited to a sample rate of 96kHz. However, the 2nd gen 2i2 now supports up to 192khz sample rates with a 24-bit resolution (but, who records at 192khz anyway?). The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a 2 input, 2 output XLR amp that plugs into via USB to a computer. I upgraded to using it about 4 months ago and I'm glad I did. If you're using an XLR microphone or instrument to record onto a computer, this is a perfect entry level pro amp to start with.
This video compares the 2nd gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB audio interface with the 1st gen 2i4 model and outlines the differences between the 1st and 2nd ge.
